Lakes in Berlin
That Berlin has much going for is a known fact. A lot of sightseeing, parks and cultural offers open up a whole new world for you to discover. But there is something else that makes Berlin that unique: a water expanse that covers 137.376 hectare of Berlins area. Therefore it is sometimes called "Spree-Venice". But not only the river spree is located in the German capital. Many lakes like the lido at Wannsee or Orankesee lay the foundations of a perfect summer day. We collected some useful information about the favored swimming spots, certainly distinguished with a blue flag label.
Indeed. The beach at lido Wannsee is originally from the coast of the baltic sea. Maritime flair just 10 minutes walking distance from the hectical center of Berlin. It is open during summer until the 30th of september - current opening times are published on the website.
To visit the lido you can decide whether travelling by public transport or by car. The car park has 350 parking positions available. If you prefer to use public transport you have two different options. First you can take the S-Bahn to "Nikolasee". It is a station of S-Bahn line S1 or S7. Second possibility is take the bus to station "Kronprinzessinnenweg/Ecke Wannseebadweg" on line 218. Both stations are about 10 minutes walking distance to the lido Wannsee.
At lake "Kleiner Müggelsee" you are invited to enjoy excellent water quality and an idyllic surroundig. Sunbathers will take delight on the sandy beach while families can have a picnic in the penumbra. If you are looking for a more romantic spot you can find little bays apart from the public beach.
Maybe you feel hungry after swimming, for that you can visit Restaurant Neu Helgoland which serves simple snacks or whole dishes - even for take away. In adjacent café L&B you can have a piece of a fresh homemade cake.
Nearby lake "Müggelsee" you can find a parking. Even with public transport you can arrive without any difficulty. Therefor you use the S-Bahn (►line 3) to station "Köpenick" and change to bus line X69 where you have to get off at stop named "Odernheimer Straße".
For a fee of 4,00 € - full price, 2,50 € - for children, you are invited to have an active day for the family at Orankesee. The younger guests will appreciate the 52 m long water slide, the ping-pong as well as the beach-volleyball facilities. It meets familys expectations not only because of the large nonswimmer area but also the small lunchroom where you can buy little snacks. In addition to this you can borrow a beach basket for 5,00 € per day. This lido is well-maintained and has own sanitary arrangements.
For those who are not discouraged by a 15 minutes walking distance we recommend the arriving by public transport. The closest station is "Buschallee/Hansastraße" accessible by Tram line M 4. Drivers can park their vehicle directly at the entrance.
The lake "Schlachtensee" is located in the south west of Berlin and provides an outstanding water quality as well. The high-lying shore is burred by the rootage of the surrounding trees. The controlled district of the beach features a restaurant including a beer garden. Around the sea line you will find some bays to allow the turmoil to fade away.
Parking possibilities are existent but limited, especially on a sunny summer day. To avoid not finding a place to leave the car you can get to lake "Schlachtensee" by public transport easily. The station "Schlachtensee" is very close to the entrance.
The lido at lake Plötzensee fits perfect for everyone who is looking for fun & action in the heart of Berlin. The young visitors can explore an adventure playground, a water slide and some trampolines. The ones that are as fit as a fiddle will have fun by playing different kinds of ball sports such as ping-pong, soccer or volleyball. If you are more interested in relaxation you may have a seat under the parasol with a cool drink. The variety of culinary treat ranges from Asian to Italian as well as German food and cocktails.
And if it is to rainy to swim? A bicycle tour through the adjacent park "Rehberge" with a go for a pull afterwards grades up every sunny day in autumn.
Apart from the official lido Wannsee you will find a small boathouse with a label that says "Here Monika and Wolfgang work, live and love". Monika and Wolfgang Düring live here since 1992. They provide pedal boats and rowboats for rent. Beside a little cafe where you can have a glass of wine while sitting on the wooden landing stage.
